Hometown of Salmon - Murakami City, Nigata

The city of Murakami is located at the north end of Nigata Prefecture.  It's famous as a hometown of salmon annually returning to Miomote River in the city.

The city keeps the old traditional Japanese townhouses, called Mchiya, to preserve the beautiful old town landscape.  Just walking down the streets downtown is quite fun with those antique houses.

By the way, Murakami is also a hometown of a young professional snowboarder Ayumu Hirano who recently won a sliver medal in the half-pipe competition in 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi. He actually won the silver medal in the winter X Games last year, but I didn't him till at all. Sorry not interested in snowboarding.

Exquisite Fall Foliage at Mt. Zao

Let me get back to another story of the fall season last year.
I went down to Mt. Zao, the most famous tourist place in Yamagata. The area provides various attractions for visitors throughout the year.  One of them is exquisite fall foliage the mountains show. Unfortunately my camera wasn't good enough to fully capture its beauty. So if you wanna see it, just go there. Trust me, it's stunning !!

Sakata City, Yamagata - Used to be lively.

On the previous article, I just posted the photos of Yamai Rice Warehouses in Sakata city. I'm now posting the other ones I took fall, 2012 in the city.

This port city suffered from a massive fire in 1976 and has recovered from the big damage.
